Doctor Doctor … Yucky News

Friday, 30 November 2007, 6:25

For my last of the month Diabetes post, I talk about my doctor’s visit.

Can you say YUCK?  I have been a bad patient.  My A1C is up to 7.0 from 6.8 three months ago and my cholestoral went from 231 to 296 (please don’t pass out).  Let’s not even go into how much my weight went up.

Plus I’m starting to deal with low estrogen.

The “good” limit was .28 for my TSH.

So what happens now?  Well Jo needs to get her act in gear and go back to eating like she’s suppose to (put down the chips, throw away the dip and no more fries!).   I need to be exercising again, which is going to first start with a visit to the podiatrist.  When I walk, which is what I prefer to do, my toes go numb.  I’ve changed shoes, socks, had hubby help with the tying of the laces, etc. but still they go numb half way through.  The numbness goes away within five minutes of stopping, so going to see a professional.

My diet has been 1/2 trashed.  I say 1/2 because I haven’t gone completely back to the way I use to eat, but I let in things I should have known better with, ie: potato chips and dip.  I need to get back to carb counting and watching the times I “cheat”.   Example: I had a morning reading of 65 yesterday, had an Egg McMuffin on the way to the doctor and an hour after I had eaten it, I had a BG of 232!!!!

I will not tell you that I won’t cheat – I will.  I’m human, I’m going to enjoy my life, but low-carbing it is going to have to come back full force for the next few months.  Without the exercise I haven’t been able to counteract the “bad” stuff I’ve been doing.

So now I have another pill to take daily, Lipitor, and am kicking myself for being so stupid.

It only took three months for all my hard work from when I started on this journey with diabetes began to be wiped out.

So for those of you dealing with diabetes, or have been told to get with it or you’ll be one, it doesn’t take much to make a difference.  I have my next doctor’s visit in April.   Let’s just see how much hard work can fix what I brought on myself.

Thank you everyone for stopping by this month.  I’m sure a lot of you got tired of the daily diabetes posts, looking for something else, but as you can see from above, it is important.
