September 27th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Afghanistan

These people are desperate uh?  Normally, the Red Cross is left alone, although they do travel the country protected.

Two foreign employees of the International Red Cross have been abducted in Wardak province in central Afghanistan, police say.

The area police chief Gen Ewaz Muslimyar said the two were kidnapped along with their two Afghan drivers while travelling in Salar district.

The Red Cross office in Kabul has not yet commented on the report.

The number of kidnappings has soared in Afghanistan where foreign and Afghan troops are battling Taleban insurgents.

“This much I know, that two Red Cross staff were kidnapped by the Taleban in the Salar district yesterday (Wednesday),” Gen Muslimyar was quoted by news agency Reuters as saying.

An unnamed official told the Associated Press that two foreigners had gone to Wardak province to discuss the release of a German man kidnapped in July.

The men had also helped free 21 South Korean captives last month, the agency said.

*edited to correct post title: add -Kidnap-; correct this to these in first sentence.

I’m betting that it was a mistake. The international Red Cross is very sympathetic to terrorists and the Taliban. Perhaps they did this just to get the drivers.

When I read this to hubby earlier, he just said - they are dying and desperate — because you’re right, usually the Red Cross is always on the terrorist side!!
