RSS Readers and Blackberrys

As I noted here, I had started using Bloglines to keep up with my ever growing blogroll and news outlets.  What I needed was to be able to keep up with it on my Blackberry too. It was fairly easy to use and after I finally figured out how to use sub-folders worked great on my Blackberry.

At That Time.

Well it’s been close to a month now – and Bloglines SUCKS!!  Not just on the Blackberry but on the PC. The posts update on the hour, and not just on new posts. If the latest post on a blog receives a comment, Bloglines reads it as a new post and marks it as such.  I was wasting time digging through posts I’d already read.

I went over to my favorite Blackberry Forum and got some ideas from the users over there.   Although I do not care for Google all that much (due to their left leanings), I kept reading about how well they handled RSS feeds on the PC and the BB.  So I tried it.

I started loading it day before yesterday on the PC.  Unfortunately, I did have to load each feed individually, but I put in about 15 to 20 that I like to read throughout the day and tried it yesterday.

Pro: The posts are formatted to be read on the smaller screens.  Although several people that use WordPress have installed Alex Kings Mobile Reader plug-in, some haven’t thought about it, or don’t care enough about their readers to do it.

Pro:  The feeds update more regularly than an hour.

Con:  Its Google.  But I think I can live with that.

Who knows, I may change my mind again in 30 days, but for now, Google’s Reader for Mobile is much better and functional, for me, than Bloglines’.
