From About.Com:
November 14th is World Diabetes Day. This is a day set aside by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), to raise awareness of diabetes and it’s complications around the world. Although there are 21 million people in the U.S. with diabetes, there are 200 million worldwide.
This year’s campaign will emphasize the difficulties that people in both developed and developing countries may have in acquiring the best diabetes care. The campaign slogan this year is “Diabetes Care for Everyone” and especially targets “the disadvantaged and the vulnerable”.
It’s estimated by the IDF, that diabetes is within the top five leading causes of death in the world. World Diabetes Day is commemorated yearly on November 14th in more than 150 countries. Many activities and events are planned including free screenings for diabetes and it’s complications, workshops and exhibitions, public information meetings, press conferences, TV and radio shows, news articles, and many other ways to get the message out.
