From the 12th Street Rag:
Martial arts teacher indicted on child molestation charges
Jonathan Hyung Boyd, an internationally renowned martial arts competitor, faces additional counts of sexually exploiting, molesting and video taping boys after a Muscogee County grand jury issued an indictment on Monday.
Boyd, 23, faces four counts of child molestation, three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count each of aggravated child molestation and invasion of privacy. The counts stem from a series of alleged incidents between Aug. 1, 2002, and Nov. 4, 2005.
“He’s out on bond,” Assistant District Attorney Maggie Bagley said.
Boyd may not contact the boys listed in his indictment, he may not leave Phenix City and he must surrender his passport as conditions of his bond.
According to defense attorney Julia Slater, her client is no longer working at Won’s Martial Arts Academy & Fitness Center in Phenix City.
“He’s not working with children,” Slater said.
[...]
Boyd has won top prizes in competitions for using weapons, and he’s touted as being one of the best sword martial arts competitors in the world. He has taught locally and conducted seminars and workshops at events across the country.
I drive by this school every day coming home. I studied Tae Kwon Do for three years in Texas and am sickened that someone teaching an art similiar to it would do this.

I am not surprised something like this would happen at Won’s Martial Arts. Jonathan’s instructor, Young s. Won, is known in the area to be a person who lacks integrity and honesty. That being the case, can we really expect goodness from his teachings? It is a shame that this Jonathan kid has hurt the reputation of Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts.

This upsets me. I worked with Jonathan Boyd for 3-4 months in Auburn. We had no idea until the police came to our Auburn restaurant because he was violating his probation. He was constantly around alot of children since we worked at a family restaurant which is scary. He was very bright, outgoing, friendly and a true hard worker. It really makes me hesitant to trust anyone. No one is who they seem to be. This pedophile sickness can be in the least expected, it’s hard to trust anyone with your children!

Jonathan Boyd was a friend and fellow competitor of mine. what has happened is sick yet sad, and my prayers go out to everyone involved. in prison, the inmates treat these people as scum, jonathan will soon get a taste of molestation and i feel very bad for him

everyone make bad choices in life and as the bible teaches let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone. I hope this puts Jon to the bottom so all he can do is look up to his Savior for help.

Wow. You know the martial arts needs to be about integrity and honor. I was a top competitor in NASKA in 2001 and 2002 and I saw Jonathan’s career blossom. During the competitions getting trophies and strutting around was the goal of the day. Complaining, cheating and other behavior has all over the place. The kids were like sponges copying each others trends and learning bad habits. I”m not surprised that this took place, but that its connected to a dojo is disturbing.

Certainly, I am surprised, but I’ve always had a notion that martial arts centers have always put on a false image of themselves and since it is an environment with males then they tend to get deeply egoistic, this is not the martial arts way. Shoulin temple in China ,they are true to the definition in martial arts. The Xtreme team just confuses me and so does hearing that Boyd touched the boys in there sleep, and it did not even have to be Micheal Jackson, who everybody makes fun of and accouses of child abuse towards his own children. Boyd didn’t have children, but as long as he wasn’t Micheal it was alright for those parents to let there kids sleep over at Jonathans. I mean I wouldn’t give a crouching tiger flying fuck if my kids were friends with the instructor, you ain’t gonna sleep over cause I bought you your own bed in your own fucking room. I’m a mother, but I ain’t no merry poppins. Call me rude and inconsidereate, but I know whats real and I point it out to people to know and realize that the parents and the kids don’t think. why trust someone you don’t know well so quickly. I only know you as my teacher, why would I go to my teachers house and sleep there when I have my own bed at home…don’t parents ever teach that to there kids, about common sense and whats proper behavior. I always teach my kids that sleeping over other peoples house is not exceptional and that they are vunerable. I lay down the rules because I am educated and have common sense than most mothers.
