The Piano Man’s Daughter
I am a huge, HUGE Billy Joel fan. I am one of those fans who knows the words to the vast majority of his songs. The best part of his concerts is when he gets to the end of Piano Man and just stops, allowing the audience to sing the last refrain. I found out that one of my favorite Billy Joel tunes was influenced by a Beethoven piece and had it played at my wedding. I am a fan.
I’d heard rumors that his daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, was also a talented singer. Well, she’s got a new website and is about to release her own album. She also has a site on MySpace. I hadn’t heard she was a songwriter as well — I guess such things are in the genes after all. One of her tunes is on the website, and it’s nice…she has a wonderful voice.
I will admit that the fact that she’s 20 — given that I remember pictures of her as a little blond-haired child — makes me feel a bit old…
