“24″ Day 5: 3am-4am

The 2-Hour Season Finale is on Monday, May 22nd 8/7c
I missed something — I had to. When did Karen decide to uncuff Bill and bring him back into the fold? All of a sudden they are buds again and are helping Jack? And why didn’t SOMEONE make a back-up copy of the only frackin’ tape of evidence before Chloe started working on it? Even us silly bloggers know backup backup backup! Logan is going to shoot the plane down due to some hijacking distress call the plane is giving out. Okay, not the plane, I’m sure someone on board would have to trigger it, but since we know it’s Graham, the ultimate bad dude pulling Logan’s strings — why doesn’t someone wonder “who” set off the alarm?
We start out with Bill and Karen in the “holding” room and Bill’s cuffs are being removed. Jack is on the phone giving them an update. Karen assures Jack that once he’s on the ground, he will be brought to CTU for protective custody. They leave the room — bad move Karen — and Miles looks like he swallowed a fly. Bill requests that Chloe be brought back in also and Karen agrees.
Curtis tells Audrey, who is in medical with a nice ‘ittle bandage on her arm, that the SecDef is alive (told you last week he was) and she is of course thrilled. She really does love her father. Curtis is called out of the room by Karen to go meet Jack when the plane lands. Curtis seems relieved about that situation too.
Graham tells Logan they have a plan to help him out of this pickle. They are going to set off the emergency distress signal put in all planes since 9/11 that advises the tower and FAA there is a hijacking and the plane is going to be used as a weapon. This will allow Logan the opening he needs to use force to bring it down and destroy the evidence. Logan doesn’t appear to be the least bit concerned about the 50 innocents on the plane.
The distress signal is set off — CTU is advised and is Novick at the Whitehouse. Logan talks to the military who have an F18 on go. Logan plays his concern well in front of Admiral and Mike, but you can see a kernell of doubt playing over Mike’s face — something just doesn’t “feel” right, you can see it. Logan does this is “I’m a concerned President Dance” (Kind of like the one we saw at one point about someone not having sex?)
Chloe, Bill and Karen are in the situation room and Chloe is tracking the F18. Jack wants to land the plane on a highway, and Bill finds a stretch that could work. The plane needs 5000 ft, Bill found them 4000. Curtis races to the area while Jack and Evans fight the plane down to the ground – all the while an F18 is locked onto it. Once the plane starts to land, the F18 pilot let’s his ground crew know and the Admiral tells Logan. It doesn’t appear the plane will be used as a weapon — no need to shoot it down. Logan swallows and aborts the shoot down; BUT orders the Marines to cordone off the area and hunt for Jack.
Of course in dramatic TV fashion, the plane comes to a stop “just before” an overpass that would have ripped it’s wings from it. Jack sends the passengers out the back of the plane, while he escapes through a wing hatch and runs the other direction. He calls Curtis and tells him the Marines are there. Curtis tells him where he will be and Jack runs to him and gets in the SUV. Of course, they can’t get away clean — in the script, page 110 — and the Marines stop them. Curtis bullies his way through the roadblock and they head to CTU.
And no one has listened to the tape that Jack got from the co-pilot to see what it says, if it is still the evidence they need?
Jack arrives at CTU with the evidence – that as far as we know he hasn’t relistened to to verify – hands it off to Chloe – who doesn’t make a backup of it – and heads off to see Audrey.
At the presidential retreat, Logan prepares to take his own life. The vice has tightened itself around his privates and he knows that the scandal of what he has done will rip the nation apart. Yeah right – he doesn’t give a rats patootee about the country — he only cares about himself.
Miles is clearly upset about Karen having left him out of the loop. He calls her in the situation room and demands to know what is going on. Bill doesn’t like it — doesn’t trust him. Karen tells Bill that Miles has been with her a long time and always loyal. She takes Miles to a hallway and tells him what is going on. He is clearly shocked, but counters her lack of hearing the evidence herself. She knows that it could end her career, but Bill belives in Jack and that says something to her.
Logan goes to see Martha to apologize and she is cool to him. He tells her he loves her and heads back to his desk and the gun. He takes a stiff drink and removes the gun from its box. Just as he’s getting ready to do the deed, his phone rings. He answers it and takes a call from Miles. He tells the president the evidence can disappear. Logan looks relieved and tells Miles to do what he can, and he’ll text him his personal phone number.
Miles goes into the situation room to ask Chloe how much longer to the conference with the Attorney General. As he leans over toward her, he has a device in his hand that blinks this red light toward the tape Chloe is working on and I’m sure it erases it. When does a magnet blink red?
The show closes with Logan feeling better and Jack and Audrey releaxing in medical …
