Conflict of Interest

Yesterday the Panthers actually showed up to a football game and beat the Atlanta Falcons to win a wild card spot in the NFL playoffs.

I of course can’t let this part of the game go unmentioned…although I admit I’d hoped for pictures

If they’d shown up last week and beaten the Bucs, they’d have a true playoff spot and the NFC South crown. Sorry, had to get that out of my system….

Now the Panthers have a wild card game to play…against the New York Giants. They happen to be my family’s team — I was rooting for them long before the Panthers came along. If they ever bothered to show them play in this area, I’d have a hard time choosing between the two. (In NC, it’s either the Panthers or the Redskins that the networks show.)

It will be an interesting game for me. Whoever wins, I’ll be glad to see them move on in the playoffs. Could either of them make the Super Bowl? Sure…to borrow a oft-used phrase lately, there’s a lot of parity in the NFC (and the NFL too I think) and it’s anybody’s championship. Of course, Seattle and Indianapolis are out there….

As a long time Falcons fan, I can’t really comment in a positive way except to say that getting your ass whooped is a good motivation for learning how to put up a better fight!

    See ya next year

Charlotte is an old home of mine and I was there the first season the Panthers started in ‘Ericsson Stadium’ just off of route 88. (I think)

That’s the only other NFL stadium I’ve attended besides the one in Orchard Park, Buffalo. Now that my Bills are out, my wife’s Cowboys are out (oh darn!) I’ll pull sentimentally for the Panthers…

Steve Smith should be MVP of the League if you ask me!
