Well it’s going to be interesting finding out what the heck is going on here! Takes a lot to remove a 4-Star General.

Senior Army General Is Relieved of Command
Tuesday, August 09, 2005

WASHINGTON — The Army said Tuesday it relieved a four-star general of his command after an investigation into unspecified “personal conduct.”

Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes (search) was relieved as commander of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command on Monday by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker, according to a brief statement issued by Army headquarters at the Pentagon.

Although disciplinary action against general officers is not uncommon, it is extremely rare for a four-star general to be relieved of command.

He had held the position as commander of Training and Doctrine Command since November 2002. Before that he was director of the Army staff at Army headquarters in the Pentagon.

“The investigation upon which this relief is based is undergoing further review to determine the appropriate final disposition of this matter,” the Army statement said.

The deputy commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Lt. Gen. Anthony R. Jones, has been designated the acting commander, following the action against Byrnes, said Army spokesman Paul Boyce.

The spokesman said it was an Army policy not to release information about specific allegations in an investigation of an Army officer.

In April the Pentagon announced that Lt. Gen. William Wallace had been nominated for a four star and assignment as commander of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (search), to succeed Byrnes. There was no public indication at that time that Byrnes was under investigation.

Update: Sounds like the General was playing house NOT with his wife. That’s the impression I got from a news blurb on this story today on Fox News. More to follow I’m sure.

JACK ARMY is following this too here.

Wowza! It has to be something VERY serious for this to happen. You’ve got my curiosity up, fo sho!

From what I gather, he had an extramarital affair with a civilian female. He was separated at the time from his estranged wife but had not finalized a divorce. If this is the case, he would be charged with adultery under the UCMJ.

I gather that too, but now I’m wondering after reading the updated post link on the bottom. What we need to know is when the “affair” started in the time line of the divorce …. I wonder if we’ll ever find something like that out though.
