Reminders

Reading something on Stacy’s blog today reminded me of a few things that happened when hubby had to go various places in the world.

It always takes me about 2 weeks to get used to him NOT being around, ie: in the bed, there when I get home, etc.

But a few things stick out that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

One being a 3 day time period when he was in Bosnia that I couldn’t sleep. I went through 72 hours of no sleep, 2 days of work and a Tae Kwon Do competition, yet still no sleep. Finally on Sunday morning I crashed clear through until Monday morning. I didn’t find out for 4 months what was going on with him, but let’s say that a serious connection between us two let me know he was in danger.

The second incident fortunately is more light hearted. He’d been gone about 4 days and I was doing the normal leave the TV on at night because I was not comfortable not having my bodyguard with me in the bed. I woke up suddenly, not sure why actually, and heard snoring. Being half asleep, I did the normal “nudge the monster” to get him to stop snoring … and felt hair? I rolled over to find Bubba laid up on hubby’s pillow sawing wood like a prize fighter. For a flat 30 seconds, hubby was still at home and making my nights unsleepable with his snoring. I hugged Bubba and managed to sleep a little sounder that night. No, it wasn’t my bodyguard husband, but my big bad ass dog that was making sure I was safe. Even if he was keeping me awake sawing logs.

Both dogs are very good at keeping me calm when he’s not around. I have actually woke up and found one on either side of me and me clearly remembering a nasty dream. They are my protectors, awake or not.

Ah, the military life. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
