Diabetes Care Improved Over Last Decade

Far fewer Americans with diabetes are ending up in emergency rooms or developing kidney failure a sign that diabetes care has improved dramatically over the last decade, the government reported Saturday.

“These data suggest that people with type 2 diabetes on a statin who switch from Avandia to ACTOS may realize incremental benefits to their lipid levels,” said Robert Spanheimer, M.D., medical director for diabetes and metabolism at Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America

Pre-Diabetes a Costly Condition

People with pre-diabetes incur greater health care costs and are in poorer health than people with normal blood glucose levels.

The findings, which are to be presented Saturday at the American Diabetes Association annual meeting in San Diego, indicate that this group of people may need to be followed more closely.
