Did you all see on the news where there was a stand off with a fellow in California for 8 hours after a high speed chase? The guy was from my area!!!

I-10 chase suspect from Phenix City

A Phenix City man, accused of attempting to kidnap a woman and leading police on a 75-mile freeway chase, was in stable condition Wednesday in a California hospital.

Dennis Elliot Shellhouse, 45, of 547 Lee Road 553, was shot twice at the conclusion of the incident in Alhambra, Calif., after deputies shoved a tear gas grenade into the minivan he was driving Tuesday and sent a dog to drag him out, ending a standoff that had tied up Interstate 10 near downtown Los Angeles for hours.

We have no may have no idea why Mr. Shellhouse did this. The news article went on to say he was very active in the community, especially the school system where his wife teaches. (Man I feel bad for her this morning).

In a tape-recorded conversation with a police negotiator, Shellhouse said he planned to hold the woman briefly for ransom and then let her go. He abducted her at gunpoint from her porch, Nishimoto said, but when she ran for her house he told police he decided to back off. He fled in the van instead.

According to this article in the Whittier Daily News,

Back in Alabama, friends and family of the suicidal man who tied up Los Angeles freeways for four hours after an allegedly kidnapping attempt said Wednesday they were baffled how a church-going family man and selfless volunteer could go so wrong on a short business trip to Southern California.

This is just too wild to understand.
I wonder how he knew this women?
I wonder what is the underlying reasons for this situation he’s in?
